RSM Housing Your key to feel @home while studying in Rotterdam
Posted by Admissions Team in Staff Interviews
Last week, I had an interview with our RSM housing manager Marian Verploegen van der Bilt. This interview gave me a deep insight into the RSM housing services, I would like to share this information with you, our prospective students, and hope you will have a better understanding of RSM housing services after reading this blog post.
As a housing manager at RSM, Marian plays an intermediate role between our students and accommodations. She manages housing and related services on behalf of the RSM housing association. Her daily operational tasks involve keeping in regular contact with student tenants, looking after rental income, and dealing with repairs and maintenance issues. Additionally, she also keeps the RSM housing website updated. RSM has a very international environment, Marianne believes that she can learn a lot from our MBA and MFM students who speak different languages, have different backgrounds, and cultures; in the meantime, she thinks our students also can learn more about the RSM and Dutch culture from her.
Housing is important for everyone, it makes people feel safe, secure and it creates a sense of belonging. For MBA and MFM students, housing is extremely important. Our many international students appreciate the service our housing office offers in providing them with accommodation which also streamlines the visa process and formal registration at the City hall.

Probably some people would ask: How fast can I get a house? Marian said that it depends on your requirements and the housing availability. There are four types of accommodations for the students: family houses, couple apartments, single rooms and shared rooms(shared rooms means you always have your own room, but share the kitchen and bathroom). Normally applicants can start reserving housing as soon as they are registered to the programme. The online reservations and all updated details about RSM housing are known by the mid of July. Thus, Marian advises everyone to submit their MBA or MFM application as soon as they are ready so that they can start viewing the housing options available to them, because it is on the basis of first come first served.

She suggests that applicants should decide on their requirements of a house first, and then check the RSM housing website for current available accommodations, after which they can reserve online. Most information of the housing application process takes place online, but if you have special requirements or needs, you can contact Marian personally for more guidance. The rent of a house also depends on your requirements, the prices differ per accommodation type. If you would like to know more about the current rent of our accommodations, you can always find the most updated information in our housing website.
At the end of our interview, Marian said there is always a challenge, for example the cultural differences when housing for MBA and MFM students. She feels very satisfied and positive when she gets things done and helped students with their housing needs, and her quote is I am happy if our RSM students are happy!
That is all! I hope you have a better understanding of our housing service right now. Thanks for following our blogs. Please stay tuned for our next blog!
