The unintended implications of being an MBA Marketing & Admissions Manager
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
Who knew what I was getting myself into when I joined Rotterdam School of Management over 3 years ago! I came from a completely different AND corporate background within the oil, gas and shipping industry. OK I have been dealing with international development of the human factor a.k.a being and Human Resources Office for international companies but working for a business school is just a little different I actually never realized until yesterday evening – not sure where this epiphany came from – that working at the admissions department definitely enlarged my scope on todays and tomorrows world and life…

Incredible India!
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
I always say to people that I feel I have really travelled if I go to a country where it feels “foreign”. A country where your senses are constantly confronted, where your assumptions are constantly being challenged and where your comfort zone is constantly stretched – India is such a country. Travelling back there after having been away for two years just made me realise again how much I love this place. The sights, the sounds, the smells…. It’s as if you feel the heartbeat of the country the moment you set foot on Indian soil. I love the energy,…

Diehard Admissions!
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
Dear Readers, It has been a while since the last update from the RSM Marketing & Admissions Office, but it was for a good reason! Around this time of year it is all hands on deck in order to streamline all the applications we are receiving for our International Full-time MBA Programme and our Executive Part-time MBA Programme that both commence in January. We are now building on the foundation that was laid throughout the year when we were travelling all over the world and meeting up with our prospective new students. Although it will be difficult now for some…

Awake in Ho Chi Minh City
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
Dear reader, With the gentle reminders from our Marketing Manager at the back of my head and a few hours to kill I would like give an update and some extra insights from me. Currently I am cruzing at an altitude of 30.000 feet on flight GA 867 from Bangkok to Jakarta. The last few days have been quite a train ride since I left from my hometown Den Haag (The Hague) and boarded a plane set for Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam where I spend a whopping 16 hrs altogether. This did get me a raised eyebrow at…

Sleepless in Shanghai
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
It is 3am in Shanghai. I am awake. I have typed tons of emails. I have Skyped home. I have phoned long lost friends. It is 3am. I am awake. I am not usually a night owl, in fact, I am the opposite of a night owl. Yep, you guessed it jetlag. One of the things you have to live with when travelling in Asia. However, being awake at this hour of the night also allows you time to think and reflect. I often lie thinking about the cities that I have just been to as well as start…

Asian heat!!
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
Its hot! Temperatures that soar above 40?C on a daily basis and yet with little sun to be seen because its cloudy, close and muggy. The odd thunderstorm does absolutely nothing to alleviate the furnace-like temperatures and it is uncomfortable and drains energy. Welcome to summer in Asia! It may sound like a nightmare, but nothing could be further from the truth! Asia is wonderful, even in summer, and that is because the people are warm and very friendly, the food is great and the MBA candidates that I have had the pleasure to meet are dynamic, driven and passionate…

An update from MFM Admissions & Programme Manager Bart Scheenaard
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
Dear Reader, Well my promise to all of you to write my blogs in a more structured timeline is hopelessly lost and for that I apologize. I think it is roughly 2 – 3 months ago when I posted my last blog. But! in all fairness I think I have some circumstance that might soften your critique – I got married roughly 3 weeks ago and of course – for those that have been through the process as well – it tends to take a lot of your time and energy, but it was all worth it. If you are…

Under African skies
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
A blog by: Maryke Luijendijk-Steenkamp, Marketing and Admissions Director at RSM MBA about her experiences during MBA fairs in South Africa and Nigeria. Our Associate Dean always tells our MBA students that you have to learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. When I travel for RSM, this slogan often mulls through my head and my recent trip to Africa was no exception. From flights being delayed indefinitely to my appointment schedule having a life of its own to getting lost in dodgy backroads on my way to an airport, there was never a dull moment. However, I always love…

Meet and Greet in Brussels and Paris!
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
Going abroad to recruit international students who signed up for RSM 1-2-1, Connect 1-2-1 or the QS MBA event, which I did for Brussels and Paris last week, it is a great pleasure and privilege to get in contact with potential candidates and to bring RSM to their attention and inform them about the Post graduate MBA/MFM programmes that RSM offers. The personal touch is so important here! In Brussels I sat on an admissions panel with three other business schools from different Global regions. It is great opportunity to introduce the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University to the audience. …

My trip to Washington and NY…
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
There is always a great feeling when you travel, even if it is for business. I particularly love to meet different people and experience new views & cultures. Thats why I love my work at RSM! We are here for business people, we help in accessing and counseling their careers and most important are part of the interesting personal lives of so many students and alumni. This network is amazing! My trip started off in Washington. It was like any other trip without any hassles or problems, however it was slightly different this time. I arrived on the day of the Super Bowl XLVI ,…
