First quarter completed
Posted by rsm-rrupprecht in Student life
In my last post, I described how time flies here in Rotterdam. Last week, term one out of four was completed after an intense phase of group assignments and studying. We had another couple of days left to become even more busy as usual with exam preparation. The most feared exam was on business statistics and luckily we took the exam yesterday. Four other subjects will be tested in the rest of this week before we go into spring-break. Wrapping-up what happened and how life is as an MBA student. One of our teachers used a very nice phrase to…

BEHIND THE SCENES AT RSM: Staff interview with Maryke Luijendijk-Steenkamp
Posted by Chantal Dammann in Staff Interviews
It’s not if you do it. Its how you do it. This piece of advice was given to Maryke Luijendijk-Steenkamp by her mother. Maryke endorses it not only in her private life, but also professionally in her position as the Director of MBA Marketing and Admissions at RSM. Originally from South Africa, Maryke now lives in Rotterdam. She loves travelling, particularly to destinations that trigger a mini culture shock. Some of her favourite cities are Cape Town, Tokyo and Tel Aviv. Part of Marykes job at RSM is travelling to places to learn about new markets. Its exciting to…

Behind the scenes at RSM: Professor Finn Wynstra
Posted by Chantal Dammann in Faculty Corner
Finn Wynstra is Professor of Purchasing and Supply Management at RSM. He says he finds it really refreshing to work with the wide range of different students across RSMs MBA, EMBA, master and bachelor programmes. I find the variety of their backgrounds, expertise and ambitions fascinating, says Wynstra. And the broad range of expertise amongst faculty is also very attractive, as it offers many collaboration possibilities. In MBA education, Wynstra encourages students to take initiative. Some of the MBA students have in-depth work experience regarding specific themes. I think its valuable to take advantage of this in the classroom, said…

The end of my MBA journey
Posted by Aushima Thakur in Student life
Yes, I am done. I have finished my MBA and graduation is 22nd March. The guest of honour, for me, will be my three-year-old nephew. I have bought him a formal blazer to wear as I want to have a photograph of me wearing my graduation gown, with my arms around him.Twenty years from now, I want him to be proud of me and understand what that picture means to me. It was a long journey indeed. There are still times when I look back and am amazed at my own journey. I was 22 before I discovered that I…

Salsa time!
Posted by Hannah Witteveen in Student life
After a busy, but fun, two weeks of orientation and personal leadership development, it was time to wind down and dance some salsa at Salsability dance school near Rotterdam Central Station. Some came just for fun and some in preparation for the salsa competition at the MBAT (MBA Tournament in Paris) in May where 4 couples will compete together against couples from other business schools. As you can see in the pictures we had quite a turnout and the more advanced of us had great fun teaching the beginners. Im sure the local dancers were wondering what this diverse group…

The MBA experience, pre-MBA
Posted by Joris Wiemer in Student life
So at a certain point you may conclude that there’s a gap between where you are and where you want to go in your further career. In my case from external relations at a sustainability not for profit, to developing sustainable strategies in a business. My bridge of choice went by a three letter acronym: MBA. Ironically I’ve been assured that my life and career aims are likely to change as a consequence of actually doing an MBA, so who knows where the bridge will end up leading! Enrolling in an MBA program was certainly not a choice made without…

End of first week
Posted by Juan Tosto in Student life
The first week has passed with a ton of introductions from the different groups in the school and also quite a lot of information to digest. JJ and the team did a great job in organizing all the events and meetings. Everything was flawless, and everyone was very helpful and warm. Meeting my fellow classmates is probably the highlight of the week. Even though I come from a city where you see diversity everywhere, I can say that RSM MBA14 is more diverse than anything that Ive experienced in the past. Talking and meeting such a rich and interesting group…

15 days in The Netherlands
Posted by Juan Tosto in Student life
So its been fifteen days in the Netherlands. We are finally settling down. We found a place to live in a really nice neighbourhood for the kids to enjoy: close to the zoo, a few schools and what we read is one of the best speeltuins in the city. These last few days have been very busy getting our new home up and running. The kids seem to be happy but at night time they show a bit restless. I guess the whole move has to have some effect on them. As I told you in my previous post, the…

RSM MBA – The first chapter..
Posted by William McBride in Student life
Its been a long and anxious time awaiting what will certainly be a life changing experience. Ever since I received the phone call from the admissions team I have had this surreal feeling of not knowing what to expect. Now after months of preparation and an extremely exciting build up the time has finally arrived! Before I continue with my experience to date, I would like to first take this opportunity to fill you in on how my MBA journey began. I have worked in different types of professional environments since the start of my relatively short corporate career. From…

My RSM MBA Journey The beginning
Posted by Savo Lovsin in Student life
Being a dedicated traveller, I found it appealing that in the RSM brochures joining MBA programme is often compared to taking a journey. And more I was thinking about it, more I realized there are indeed many similarities. First, it all starts with a desire to travel that can have many different motives: seeing new places, meeting new people, getting in touch with different cultures, broadening your horizon… on the other hand you often just need just to leave your usual environment maybe because it is becoming too usual, maybe you just need a change. But whatever the reason…
