Managing time
Posted by Chantal Dammann in MBA Admissions blog
I have just returned from a short but hectic trip to Bangkok and Jakarta. Two cities I have been to quite a few times and I can say that they are starting to feel like ‘home away from home’ Bangkok is my first stop before flying to Jakarta. KLM (our national carrier) has a great influence on my travel schedule) resulting in a very short time spent in Bangkok. Last year I was fortunate enough to spend a day sightseeing with some of our colleagues from other Business Schools. Key in our travel for RSM is the fine-tuned schedule and…

3 boys, 2 cats and 1 MBA: a day in the life of an MBA mom
Posted by Hannah Witteveen in Student life
People often tell me how impressed they are that I’m doing an MBA as a mom of little children. It doesn’t seem like such a big deal to me, but I guess for me it’s normal because I’m used to it. It’s my life and there’s nothing I could (or would) change about it. I have three boys: Sebastien (1.5), Lucas (4) and Oliver (37). Life at home is always loud and full of life, but somehow I manage to study in the middle of all the madness. It takes some willpower though, especially when the boys want my attention…

Faculty interview with Murray Bryant – Teaching at RSM is both a pleasure and a privilege
Posted by Chantal Dammann in Faculty Corner
“Teaching at RSM is both a pleasure and a privilege.” Professor Murray Bryant really enjoys his connections with RSM along with several colleagues and former colleagues. Murray is an Associate Professor of Managerial Accounting and Control at the Ivey Business School in London, Ontario, Canada, Working with RSM’s second-year EMBA participants on their in-company projects are Murray’s most exciting experiences at RSM. He says that several projects stand out as truly making a difference to the students and their organisations, such as Royal Dutch Shell’s global services’ study of feeding the poor; the development of the Port of Amsterdam; digital…

MBAT!!!
Posted by Hannah Witteveen in Student life
Before starting the MBA program I was told the MBA Tournament (MBAT) would be one of the highlights of the MBA experience, and having just returned from 4 days in Paris, I could not agree more. Wow! Good times! Loads of sports, cheering, parties and fun fun fun! I had a blast! And I feel so much more bonded with my classmates now. 14 schools participated in this tournament. In previous years this only included European business schools, but this year Harvard even joined from the US to play football/soccer of all things (and they won!). A great atmosphere existed…

Incredible India!
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
I always say to people that I feel I have really travelled if I go to a country where it feels “foreign”. A country where your senses are constantly confronted, where your assumptions are constantly being challenged and where your comfort zone is constantly stretched – India is such a country. Travelling back there after having been away for two years just made me realise again how much I love this place. The sights, the sounds, the smells…. It’s as if you feel the heartbeat of the country the moment you set foot on Indian soil. I love the energy,…

The end of my MBA journey
Posted by Aushima Thakur in Student life
Yes, I am done. I have finished my MBA and graduation is 22nd March. The guest of honour, for me, will be my three-year-old nephew. I have bought him a formal blazer to wear as I want to have a photograph of me wearing my graduation gown, with my arms around him.Twenty years from now, I want him to be proud of me and understand what that picture means to me. It was a long journey indeed. There are still times when I look back and am amazed at my own journey. I was 22 before I discovered that I…

Awake in Ho Chi Minh City
Posted by Admissions Team in MBA Admissions blog
Dear reader, With the gentle reminders from our Marketing Manager at the back of my head and a few hours to kill I would like give an update and some extra insights from me. Currently I am cruzing at an altitude of 30.000 feet on flight GA 867 from Bangkok to Jakarta. The last few days have been quite a train ride since I left from my hometown Den Haag (The Hague) and boarded a plane set for Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam where I spend a whopping 16 hrs altogether. This did get me a raised eyebrow at…

Gosh, I dont believe how time really flies! Its already the 6th month of my MBA program. So many things had happened. RSM MBA has transformed and changed the way I think and behave. Heres some highlight of the journey : January : First time arrived in the Netherlands (also first time living overseas!). Found an apartment close to the city center with affordable fee (yippie!). Registered myself to the municipality (need to do at least 14 days after arrival). Roamed around to look the best place to do grocery shopping (BAS, Plus and Wan Nam Hong is the…

The Themed Research International Project (TRIP)
Posted by Aliaksandra Bakhoryna in Student life
The Themed Research International Project (TRIP) to Brussels marked another exciting enrichment to the MBA program as it allowed us to get a glimpse of the political context in which business operates. Due to the proximity of Rotterdam to Brussels, RSM MBA students can directly benefit from getting a hands-on insight into how the European political system works. We attended the kick-off session on Monday at RSM before heading off the next day to Brussels where we were given presentations on lobbying and European integration by representatives from a diverse set of backgrounds including international advisors, lobbyists and more. We…

RSM Career Development Centre’s Activities
Posted by Chantal Dammann in Staff Interviews
Its June now, which means here at the RSM Career Development Centre we are finishing up helping the MBA12 class with their salary negotiations while at the same time setting up company events for the summer and fall. Weve been to visit Philips Healthcare recently next week were going to Microsoft! And the big news of the moment is that Amazon is expanding in Europe and hiring a lot of MBAs! Given the tough economic scene right now, its great when a company is expanding. But with Amazon, its twice as good, because for jobs in their European…
