HALF OF THE ROLLER COASTER JOURNEY
Posted by asumengkar@mba13.rsm.nl in Student life
Gosh, I dont believe how time really flies! Its already the 6th month of my MBA program. So many things had happened. RSM MBA has transformed and changed the way I think and behave. Heres some highlight of the journey : January : First time arrived in the Netherlands (also first time living overseas!). Found an apartment close to the city center with affordable fee (yippie!). Registered myself to the municipality (need to do at least 14 days after arrival). Roamed around to look the best place to do grocery shopping (BAS, Plus and Wan Nam Hong is the…

After Term 1 skis and parties!!!
Posted by Mauricio Pardo in Student life
Time flew by and, after a hectic two-week period of assignments to handle and final exams to present, Term 1 is officially over for the Full Time MBA13 Class. Only three months have passed by since I started my MBA at RSM, and I already feel I have accumulated a considerable amount of knowledge and exciting experiences. Maybe this break is a perfect time to step back a little bit and try to put them all together. More than six years have passed since I ended my Bachelors Degree, so coming back to the students way of life was rather…

Chapter 1: The Scholarship
Posted by Clarissa Alfrink in Student life
It was in the start week, January 2012, of my Executive MBA course that I was to hear if I had won the Intermediair/RSM Scholarship: a scholarship I had applied for to help finance my Executive EMBA adventure. In an already crazy week of new encounters and full submersion in new information I would have to defend the essay on leadership which I had submitted two weeks before. Did I really think I had written a better essay than any of the other 89 students (as I had no idea how many had applied) which were surrounding me? The essay…

MBA-coloured glasses!
Posted by Aushima Thakur in Student life
The decision to study for an MBA was a well-thought one. And studying in Europe was another decision that received careful consideration. In addition to many other parameters, one reason was that I had lived in the US before, but I had never traveled to or lived in any European country. As the first term ended and I could not wait for the vacation to start, I packed my bags and started for the long-planned trip to France and Italy. One MBA adjustment you have to make, as you become a student again after having been a working professional for…

Learning through the team works
Posted by Min Suk Kang in Student life
After the hectic times of 1st term and at the beginning of the break, I looked back at the last term and asked myself the question: what have I gained? Although I learned a lot of new knowledge and met a lot of new good friends, I want to emphasize the learning from the team that I have worked together with to study, to identify problems and to provide solutions. In fact, if I was asked the same question one week ago, the answer would probably have been different; I would have picked a specific subject that would be handy…

From Bowling to Mango Dancing!
Posted by Cynthia Kahumbura in Student life
Jambo! Being in Rotterdam for 2 months I am loving the interaction with my peers but I must say the MBA course is every bit as challenging as I thought it would be and more. Coming from sunny Nairobi to cold Rotterdam I seem to have adjusted well to the low temperatures. However, having worked for the last 6 years being a student is no easy task. I was warned about it but I completely forgot about the late nights (as an undergrad dont know how many late nights I could attribute to studying), long hours in the library and…

Term 1: Living On The Edge
Posted by Anna Grigoryan in Student life
6 weeks are gone. I feel like it was only yesterday when I arrived at RSM. Honeymoon is over, I no longer care about under-eye concealer and coffee is my best friend now. The stronger, the better. Seems like I inhale every morning with the everlasting alarm melody, which wakes me up exactly at 8am, and exhale only when I hold the pillow late at night. A few seconds trying to remember what was going on during the day, then everything starts to fade: the brain just switches off. I never expected this much of a teamwork. Diversity, which we…

It started!
Posted by Anna Grigoryan in Student life
The first two days are over, they flew away in like two minutes. Sitting in front of the monitor I can hardly imagine the intensity and gigantic wave of emotions we went through in these couple of days. We are still in the bright honeymoon period with RSM, and I am trying not to think hard about the next week and coming academic tension, as my sleep hours are already down to 5/per night and the under-eye concealer is already my best friend in the mornings. They say, it will get worse, but isnt it the reason I am here…

Minority report
Posted by Lorna Goulden in Student life
Without any kind of deliberation, in fact more by coincidence; or by accident, I all too frequently seem to find myself in the minority the (very) odd one out: The Woman. Take my first motorbike; it just seemed like a good idea, when I was 17, after a helpful friend kindly directed me where to put the petrol and oil in . . . oh-and-how-do-you-stop the thing? A rather useful skill, as it turned out later. I reduced my student debt by racing around the streets of Bristol and London a modern day Pony Express being called…

Ready, Steady, Go!
Posted by Alaubek Avdil in Student life
First of all, Happy New 2012 Year to all of you at RSM! Finally we are now in final stages of packing and I must say we are very excited to start our year in the Netherlands. I am coming with my wife and my son, and I am expecting quite a bit of work in the first few weeks orientating myself, my wife and my son. But, fingers crossed I expect everything to go smoothly and I will hopefully update more on our adjustments. So, in a few days we will say Good Bye Ulaanbaatar and Hello Rotterdam. Looking…
